Why did Benoit do such a thing to his family after a great life?

Crossfaced his son and wife to death. I have been in that submission a few times and it was very painful, i can't immagine the pain of HIM doing it to a 7 year old. Why on earth? It is so tragic, he must of lost his mind. Such a sad story.
