What was the conflict in the raven by edgar allan poe?

The whole point of The Raven is that the guy is insane, distraught over the death of his love. The raven is more like a figment of imagination, becoming a visual aid to this man's "other half". This man is in conflict with himself, this other self being in the form of the raven.
